Deck Staining & Restoration in Ann Arbor

Decks take a beating in Michigan β€” UV in summer, snow load in winter, deck-board cupping from moisture year-round. We bring them back to life with proper prep and the right stain for your wood.

What a real deck restoration looks like

Most "deck staining" is just slapping new stain over a dirty, weathered deck. It looks fine for a season, then peels and flakes. We do it right:

Power wash

Full pressure wash to strip dirt, mildew, and loose old stain.

Strip & sand

If old stain is peeling solid, we chemically strip and sand to bare wood.

Repair

Loose boards re-screwed, popped nails set, splintered boards replaced.

Brighten the wood

Wood brightener neutralizes the stripper and opens the grain for stain absorption.

Stain (oil or solid)

We help you pick the right stain type for your wood and the look you want.

Two coats minimum

On horizontal surfaces, two coats. Vertical rails get one quality coat.

Stain or paint? It depends.

Quick guide:

  • Semi-transparent stain: Best for newer decks where you want to see the wood grain. Lasts 2-3 years.
  • Solid stain: For older decks where the wood is past its prime. Looks like paint but penetrates better. Lasts 4-6 years.
  • Paint: Almost never recommended for horizontal deck boards β€” it traps moisture and peels. Fine for railings.

Deck staining cost in Ann Arbor

Square footage and condition drive the price. We'll come look and give you a fair number.
