Exterior House Painting in Ann Arbor
Michigan weather is brutal on paint. Freeze-thaw cycles, humid summers, and lake-effect moisture mean cheap exterior jobs peel within two seasons. We do it right the first time β proper prep, premium Sherwin-Williams paint, and crews that know how to handle siding, trim, soffits, and brick.
What's included in every exterior paint job
Power washing
Removes dirt, mildew, chalking, and loose paint so the new coat actually adheres.
Scraping & sanding
Hand-scraped problem areas. Sanded smooth. Feathered edges so the new paint lays flat.
Caulking
Re-caulk every gap around windows, doors, and trim. Stops moisture before it starts rot.
Priming
Bare wood gets primed. Stains get blocked. Knots sealed. No shortcuts here.
Premium paint
Sherwin-Williams Duration or Emerald exterior. Manufacturer warranty in writing.
Two coats, every time
Most "one coat" jobs aren't actually full coverage. We do two coats minimum on color changes.
Detailed trim work
Crisp lines on fascia, soffits, window frames, doors, and shutters. Brushed where it counts.
Daily cleanup
Drop cloths, ground covers, and a clean job site at the end of every day.

When to paint your exterior in Michigan
Michigan's exterior painting season runs roughly May through early October. The ideal window is late May through mid-September when temperatures are consistently above 50Β°F at night and you've had a few dry days in a row.
Painting too early in spring (before the siding has dried out from winter) traps moisture and causes peeling. Painting too late in fall (after temperatures drop) means the paint doesn't cure properly and you'll see issues by the next summer.
Book early. The good crews in Ann Arbor are fully booked by early June for the rest of the season. Get on our calendar in March or April for a summer slot.
How much does exterior painting cost in Ann Arbor?
For a typical 2,000β2,500 sq ft home in the Ann Arbor area, exterior painting usually runs $4,500β$9,000 depending on:
- Square footage and number of stories
- Condition of existing paint (more scraping = more labor)
- Material (vinyl is faster than wood; brick is its own thing)
- Trim complexity (lots of detail work adds time)
- Color change vs same color (color change = full two coats)
